Dineo’s rating jackpot

2012-07-28 19:18

Television personality and wannabe media mogul Dineo Ranaka this week hit a TV ratings gold mine when she announced on her reality show that she was pregnant – leaving a tantalising cliffhanger for fans.

On Wednesday night, viewers of the Dineo’s Diary reality show were left with their jaws on the floor when the starlet blurted out her news in the middle of a fight with her older sister, Mpumi.

Ranaka (28) is already the mother of three-year-old Kgosi.

On the “minimally scripted” Vuzu show, Ranaka’s sister dared her to take a home pregnancy test to “prove me wrong”.

This happened after her grandmother said she’d dreamt of Ranaka swimming in faeces – which in African culture is seen as a sign that someone is pregnant.

In the show, Ranaka, who is dating struggling rapper Lesego Moiloa, finally gives in to the test and then utters the words: “Oh shit! I knew it! I knew I was pregnant...but I am not sure if Les and I are ready for a kid.”

According to a source close to the show, Ranaka is “two and a half months pregnant”, but she refused to talk about it when City Press contacted her.

“I’d prefer the show to tell the tale. I am mum. My lips are sealed,” said Ranaka, giggling.

Now in its fourth week, the show has had some eyebrow-raising moments, such as the F-bombs and near-fisticuffs with her sisters, a heated argument with her mother and the cringe-worthy exchanges between herself and boyfriend/baby daddy Moiloa.
