Doctor in court for rape

2011-10-10 09:03

A Limpopo doctor and suspended head of Thohoyandou’s Hayani hospital, Justice Mulaudzi, was expected to know today if his bail application at the local magistrates court was successful.

Thohoyandou police spokesperson Major Mashudu Malelo said in addition to rape, he would face another charge of indecent assault.

“There is an additional charge of indecent assault which happened the same day of alleged rape case,” said Malelo.

Mulaudzi was arrested a fortnight ago after a patient claimed he raped her during a consultation at a private surgery outside Thohoyandou. The rape victim was expected to testify today.

During the bail hearing last week, Mulaudzi claimed he did not rape the complainant and did not understand why she brought charge against him.

Another woman claimed he had sexually abused her, leading to the charge of indecent assault.

The health department suspended Mulaudzi as head of its hospital pending the outcome of the case.
