Five business mavericks have been unveiled as the dragons in the local version of the hit TV show Dragons’ Den, which comes to Mzansi Magic next month.

Aspiring entrepreneurs will have to convince Lebo Gunguluza, Vusi Thembekwayo, Polo Leteka Radebe, Gil Oved and Vinny Lingham to invest in their business ideas.

These captains of industry will also mentor the hopefuls.

Nkateko Mabaso, M-Net’s director for local interest channels, said they were proud of the business giants who came on board.

“The diversity of entrepreneurial spirit and individuality of each of the five Dragons is certainly upping the stakes and is likely to play a big part in making Dragons’ Den unmissable viewing.”

Gunguluza is an events, publishing and hospitality expert; Thembekwayo is one of South Africa’s top business speakers and holds directorships that give him influence of over R4.32 billion in capital; Radebe is the chief executive of Identity Partners, a small and medium enterprises advisory and fund management service; Lingham is a tech start-up guru who worked in Silicon Valley, California; and Oved is at the helm of The Creative Counsel, a R600 million turnover company that employs about 1 000 staff.

Dragons’ Den South Africa premieres on Tuesday, September 23 2014 at 7pm on Mzansi Magic.
