2010-10-30 14:38

You might need some really deep pockets to buy a sports car with standard modifications, but after tallying up all the money spent on after-market products for lowered suspensions, special paint and accessories these hefty price tags might just be worth every cent.

Ford Focus RS

The RS is the big daddy of Focus models with front-wheel-drive and only 4 000 units made for the world market.

It still has the same 2.5-litre engine found in the current ST, but it has been tweaked with a six-speed manual gearbox to scream out 224kW of power and 440Nm of torque. It comes in racing blue, white and a sparkly neon-green colour that shouts monster. It has aggressive bumpers and a shiny black roof diffuser with wide wheel arches, to name but a few modifications.

Citroën DS3

Voted as one of the Car of the Year finalists for 2011 earlier this week, the Citroën DS3 comes in a variety of funky colours with a two-tone theme.

Its alloy wheels have a sporty design and the LED day-time running lights add a funky fresh stance to its bejewelled exterior trim. The list of customised options are endless. The 1.6-litre THP Sport model is the pick of the bunch.

BMW M3 Coupe Frozen Edition

The M3 will always be known as one of the kings of the road and one of the best performance cars ever built. Twenty five years after it debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it has become an icon.

BMW SA are producing a special version of the current V8-engined M3 Coupé in celebration of this milestone. Only 25 owners will be lucky enough to get their hands on them in two exclusive colours: frozen black and frozen grey. The matt paintwork is matched to red brake callipers, black leather with red stitching and gloss black 19-inch alloy wheels.

The cars feature performance-enhancing parts from BMW’s tuner company AC Schnitzer to produce 330kW of power and 420Nm of torque. This M3 was certainly born on the racetrack to live on the streets.

Subaru WRX STI

Scoobies, as they are known on the streets, have always been mean-looking machines.

Whether it’s because of the big gaping air vent on their bonnets or the ironing-board sized rear spoiler attached to the boot is your choice. Subaru has just released their fastest WRX STI model ever locally.

The range-topping manual model has a six-speed gearbox to go with the 2.5-litre turbocharged engine kicking out 221kW of power and 350Nm of torque. Along with its distinctive aggressive front end and huge boot spoiler, it also has wide wheel arches to hug the big alloy rims.
