Three armed men robbed a Metrobus in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, this morning, shooting the driver and injuring a passenger.

Metrobus spokesperson Esther Dreyer said the shooting happened at about 5.40am while the bus was travelling from the West Rand to Sandton City.

The bus stopped on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Ontdekkers roads to pick up a passenger when three armed men got on and began robbing passengers.

“The men started shooting randomly, possibly to scare the passengers and the bus driver intervened,” Dreyer was quoted as saying by News24.

She said the bus driver was shot as he tried to defend the passengers and himself.

The driver was shot in the abdomen, News24 reported.

It was unclear whether the passenger was shot or grazed by the bullet.

The driver and the passenger were taken to Flora Clinic in Johannesburg.
