Drivers suspended for abusing ambulance

2010-12-18 07:45

Two ambulance drivers were suspended for allegedly using their ambulance for personal travel purposes, the Eastern Cape Department of Health said today.

The men apparently used an ambulance to do their shopping in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, said department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo.

He said they were immediately suspended and would face an internal disciplinary hearing in January, which could lead to their dismissal.

“This is not the first time we have heard of allegations of ambulance abuse. We suspended another driver in Mthatha,” Kupelo said.

“The department will act decisively with those accused of misconduct.”
