Drum responds to Bonang cover drama

2012-07-17 09:02

Drum magazine editor Makhosazana “Khosi” Zwane-Siguqa has written a letter voicing her “disappointment” at the heated reader response to their most recent cover story about Bonang Matheba’s rocky relationship with DJ Euphonik.

The July 19 issue of the magazine features model and TV presenter Bonang on the cover and features the coverline “Exclusive: Claims on how Euphonik is out to get her after she reported alleged assault – Plus his response.”

But Bonang took to her Twitter account to say that she was never interviewed by Drum for the story.

On Saturday, Bonang tweeted: “Bonang ‘B*’ Matheba @Bonang_M @KhosiandherDrum you DID NOT interview me, so how do u go and quote me on s**t I didn’t say?! Huh?!”

Many readers then took to Drum’s Facebook page to criticise the magazine for their coverage of the story.

Khosi responded on Drum’s website to clear things up, writing: “Friends, I have noted with much disappointment some comments posted on Twitter and Facebook regarding our cover star Bonang Matheba.

“While Bonang Matheba did not avail herself for an interview I personally met with her legal representatives to discuss the merits of our story.

“Drum’s values are integrity, professionalism, respect and ubuntu,” the letter continues, and Khosi also warned that any “misinformed judgment” or “derogatory remarks” posted against Bonang or Euphonik would be removed from Drum’s social media platforms such as Facebook.

An irate Bonang fan @MoffatMok tweeted to the star: “@DrumMagazine has clearly just decided to become a douchebag publication...well done @KhosiandherDrum!”

To which Bonang responded: “Two FULL pages of lies!! (sic)”

Bonang and ex-boyfriend Themba Nkosi, better known by his stage name DJ Euphonik, are currently embroiled in a court case after Bonang laid charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, domestic violence and malicious damage to property against the 5FM DJ.

Euphonik has denied the charges against him. His case is being heard at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Bonang is “taking time out” in New York at the moment, reports City Press.
