Durban girl missing

2011-11-30 15:15

A 10-year-old Durban girl went missing after her mother, who does not have custody of the child, picked her up at school, KwaZulu-Natal police said today.

“A kidnapping case was opened after McKayla Rutgers was picked up by her mother at Sea View Primary School on Tuesday morning,” Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Rutgers’ grandmother, Leslie Raynard, has custody of the girl.

“I received a call from the school at 10.30am after McKayla was pulled out of class by her mother,” Raynard said.

She said the girl’s mother, Calene Rugters, was accompanied by two men when she picked up her daughter.

They drove away in a grey Opel Corsa.

“The motive for the kidnapping is not clear and we don’t have any leads,” Zwane said.
