EFF official opposition in North West and Limpopo

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is the official opposition in the North West and Limpopo, according to preliminary results released.

Vote counting in North West has been completed and saw Julius Malema’s EFF take 143 683 votes (13.2%).

The DA retained third place in the North West with 12.59% (8.25% in 2009).

After the 2009 elections, Cope was the official opposition in the province with 8.33% of the vote. This year Cope was fifth on the list with only 0.94% of the vote.

The ANC retained the province with 67.39% (72.89% in 2009).

The Workers and Socialist Party, which campaigned heavily in the province, especially in the platinum belt, received only 939 votes (0.09%).

The voter turnout was 66.32%.

In Limpopo, Malema's home province, the ANC achieved close to 79% of the vote. The EFF is in second place with almost 11%.

In 2009, the ANC had 85% of the vote in Limpopo.
