Ebola: SAA not cancelling flights to West Africa

2014-08-05 13:52

As countries in West Africa continue to battle an outbreak of Ebola, South African Airways says it will not be cancelling flights to the region.

The airline’s spokesperson Tlali Tlali confirmed today that it had not cancelled any flights to countries such as Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria.

The World Health Organisation announced yesterday that the death toll had increased from 729 to 887 deaths in those countries, reported the Associated Press.

South Africa’s government has said there is no need for residents to panic over the possibility of an outbreak.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said South Africa remained on high alert and precautions were being taken to prevent the virus from entering the country.

The outbreak of the Ebola virus disease is the largest in history and the health department and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases have issued an alert to officials at the country’s ports of entry.
