‘Eggsperts’ head for Cape Town

2010-10-18 13:35

Cape Town has been selected to host the annual conference of the International Egg Commission in 2013.

Calvyn Gilfellan, chief executive of Cape Town Routes Unlimited, says it is fitting that the conference will be held in a province known for its ostriches, producers of the largest eggs in the world.

Cape Town Routes Unlimited is the destination marketing organisation of Cape Town and the Western Cape.

Some 400 delegates are expected to attend the conference.

Cape Town has hosted the event once before, in 1998.

This year’s meeting is being held in Prague in the Czech Republic.

The commission was formed in 1964 to “foster international co-operation among all sectors of the egg industry to their mutual benefit”.

The commission has declared the second Friday in October World Egg Day.

The home page of the commission’s website gives visitors two options. There’s a link for those in the egg industry, and another for those who “simply like eggs”.
