Eight men arrested for double murder

2011-11-03 13:33

Eight men have been arrested after a double murder in Phuthaditjhaba in QwaQwa, Free State.

They were taken into custody shortly after the bodies of Malefetsane Mokoena (17) and Pekepeke Xaba (20) were found in a ditch yesterday, said Brigadier Matsietsi Mahloko.

The two were beaten to death at a nearby tavern on Monday, allegedly by the owner and his friends after being accused of theft, said Mahloko.

A man who slipped out of the tavern before the two were killed tipped off police. He was also assaulted before he escaped.

The group, aged between 25 and 41, would appear in the Makwane Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of murder and assault, said Mahloko.
