A 65-year-old man was strangled at a hospital in Matlala, Limpopo police have said.

Lieutenant-Colonel Ronel Otto said a 34-year-old man allegedly strangled the old man and also bit him several times on the stomach, in the early hours of this morning.

Otto said police and paramedics took the 34-year-old man to the WF Knobel Hospital yesterday, after they were called to a school about a suspected mentally ill man causing a disturbance.

“He was taken to the WF Knobel Hospital and apparently admitted to the same ward as the deceased, Mr Elias Makololo of Ga-Rapitsi village, Moletji,” she said.

She said the man was arrested for murder and was expected to appear in the Matlala Periodical District Court later today.

Limpopo health spokesperson Phuti Seloba said the man had been admitted at the hospital for observation as a requirement.
