Exhibitor robbed of jewellery worth R112 000

An exhibitor at the Soweto Bridal Indaba has allegedly been robbed of jewellery worth R112 000.

Said Debbie Smith, the owner of Fifth Avenue Collection, to which the stall belongs: “The thieves must have done this last night after we had left the hall.”

Smith claims jewellery worth R100 000 was taken from the stall. Then stock worth R12 000 was allegedly stolen from her car.
“They also took all my office stationary,” she said.

She accused the organisers of being indifferent to her plight.

“They just shrugged their shoulders and said ‘Sorry, it happens all over the world’. But I’m not all over the world, I’m here.”

When contacted for comment, Ewoud Botha of CEO Events, the logistics company that organises the indaba, said they were “waiting for the police investigation and could only comment after that”.

The indaba continues tomorrow.
