Facebook rapist in court on murder charge

2011-11-03 07:05

Convicted “Facebook rapist” Thabo Bester will face a murder charge in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court today.

Colonel Vishnu Naidoo said the 22-year-old Bester was allegedly linked to the murder of a model in Milnerton, Cape Town, in September.

He was arrested in Alberton, south of Johannesburg, in October and sentenced to 50 years in jail by a Durban court later in the month.

The sentence related to two incidents involving two women raped and robbed at two different lodges in Durban in August.

Bester was dubbed the “Facebook rapist” because he used social media to lure women throughout the country.

He told them that international modelling scouts were interested in them and then met them in person. He would then rape and rob them at knifepoint.
