Online store Spree has a whole lot of top local female designers on its platform. For Women’s Month, it is showcasing Marianne Fassler, Leigh Schubert, Mareth Colleen, Bridget Pickering for Ruff Tung, Anisa Mpungwe for LoinCloth & Ashes, Cari Stephenson for Tart and Michelle Ludek. Gugulethu Mhlungu picked her favourite five outfits to help you step out in affordable glam fashion.

Leigh Schubert’s collection is an assortment of flowing dresses and structured skirts
in this year’s hot pastel hues of yellow and blue. Draping and playful hemlines add drama to
the range. This dress is made from a soft stretch mesh that flows as you walk. The contradiction between the graphic lines of the dress and the fluid movement of the fabric is just plain fun.
This number is from the Leigh Schubert Summer 2013/14 collection, which is all about bold use of colour, graphic tribal elements and laser-cut design.

Bridget Pickering’s Ruff Tang offers beautiful dresses for every occasion – from delicate, daytime frocks, to more structured formal wear. The collection uses draping to create volume in casual wear, as well as longer lines and interesting hemlines. This yoke dress boasts two bold colours, which underlines an important trend this season and the next: monochrome. It also comes with a two-tone belt to complete the look. Ruff Tung delivers impeccable craftsmanship. The brand is sophisticated and is for women who are not afraid to embrace new trends, yet fiercely protect their individual style. This skater dress by Mareth Colleen is a gorgeous little black number to own. It is fun and feminine, and detailed with beautiful mesh insets at the bottom. Mesh is very in for this year’s summer months, and is combined with the skater-skirt trend beautifully, but in a way that can be worn season after season. Mareth Colleen was launched in March 2011 with a wedding dress. Since then, it has developed into a range that offers ready-to-wear as well as bespoke pieces for women. Picture:

Tart is made for women who lead active, enquiring lives and are looking for simple, fuss-free pieces to slip on and go. Cari Stephenson from Tart develops her own unique prints every season. For winter 2014 and into the summer months, be bold in an emerald green and black zebra-print, full-length chiffon maxi dress. It has long sleeves, front pleating detail and the skirt is cut on the bias, creating beautiful movement. The dress can be worn as part of a sport luxe or a more formal/smart look for night or day. Anisa Mpungwe created LoinCloth & Ashes (LCA) to give women an alternative to the little black dress. It is focused on dresses and skirts that complement the female form. LCA attracts independent women who are driven and take pride in their appearance – at work and at play. The motto “dare to be different” is the key principle in the house of LCA. LCA is known for its hidden detailing, prints, elegant edge, comfort and fit. This skirt is a signature style. It is ladylike and elegant, but with that fun element. This high-waisted, mid-calf skirt is a versatile item that can be dressed up or down. Picture: Ulrich Knoblauch @ Super-nova. Model: Alexa @ Boss Models
