Female executive may face 10 years in jail after flight groping

A South African executive could face up to 10 years in jail after she grabbed an air steward’s crotch while on board a Virgin Atlantic flight, according to a report today.

Katherine Goldberg (25) from London appeared in a British court earlier this week, where she pleaded guilty to sexual assault and being drunk on an aircraft, the Saturday Star reported.

It was understood the educational supplies executive had been returning from visiting relatives in South Africa in August when the incident took place between Johannesburg and Heathrow in London.

She had drunk half a litre of whisky before grabbing the cabin crew member, the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court heard.

Bench chairwoman Mary Petley said the matter would need to be heard by a higher court.

“If you were drunk on an aircraft, and you were sleeping and snoring a bit, we could sentence you here. But this is rather more serious,” she reportedly said.

The prosecution has argued that Goldberg had made strong sexual advances towards the flight attendant before groping him in the groin and testicular area.

Goldberg’s lawyers have attempted to avoid the charge going to court, saying the sexual assault charge could be dealt with by a police caution.
