Feuding teachers in court

2013-06-11 12:03

A protracted feud between two East Rand high school teachers has ended up in court.

Aletta Pretorius, the English teacher at Jeugland High School in Kempton Park, is claiming R100 000 from the minister of police after she was arrested on February 14 2012 at the school, Afrikaans daily Beeld reported today.

The acrimonious relationship between Pretorius and Rika Papenfuss, formerly the school’s life orientation teacher, reportedly came to a head shortly before 7am that morning, in front of the staff room.

It is alleged that Pretorius deliberately shoved Papenfuss with her shoulder.

Papenfuss yesterday testified for the State in court in Kempton Park in Pretorius’ case against the police.

“She shoved me ... I fell against the wall. She has not apologised. And she said, ‘If you walk in front of me, you take what you get,’” Papenfuss said.

She then laid an assault charge and applied for a protection order against Pretorius, who was arrested later the same day.

The assault case was struck from the roll the next day, which led to Pretorius’s claim against the State.

Under cross-examination by Adel van Niekerk, for Pretorius, Papenfuss testified that she and Pretorius had known each other “from the smoking room” at the school.

The case will continue on August 2.
