Financial success: a year in review

2011-12-03 14:50

This year City Press, in conjunction with our sponsors, helped many of our readers on the road to financial success.

We helped Michael and Buthelezi start trading on the JSE and through Nhlanhla and Fox’s experiences, we learnt how in marriage your partner’s debt becomes your debt.

Zandi, Heather and Monica raised questions about finances and children – how do you protect your children financially? How do you start saving for their education?

Lerato and Tshepo both wrote to us as young people wanting to know how to invest their first pay cheques.

Lerato had a young son to care for and Tshepo wanted to buy a car and some furniture.

But we also learnt from our readers. Phezulu Investment Club and Reyakopele Trading shared with us the secret to their success in creating wealth through group savings.

Pro Share Investment Club and LLL Investment Club told us how investing as a group kept them disciplined during volatile market conditions, protecting them from making emotional decisions.

Complaints by readers raised the issues of debt administration and credit life policies, and even uncovered fraud allegedly perpetrated by Letsatsi Finance and Loan. As a result, this case is being investigated by the National Credit Regulator.

None of this would have been possible without the input from our readers.

Our articles are driven by your financial questions so we urge you to please keep on writing to us and give us feedback, and to challenge us with your questions.

Next year we will be expanding the section to bring you even more information on how to manage your money so that you can create the lifestyle you want.

We will be writing on how to trade foreign currencies without paying out thousands of rands for courses, the best way to finance your car, how to protect your money from taxes and fees, how to support an unemployed family member and how art can be an investment, to name just a few.
