Finding winning combination takes time – Amla

2015-01-06 17:37

Following the retirement from Test cricket of a third senior player in just over a year, South African captain Hashim Amla says it will take time to find a successful formula for the future.

“The team will always change with the new faces in it, and to find the winning combination is still our main goal,” said Amla today after opening batsman Alviro Petersen announced he was quitting international cricket.

“Ever since I’ve become captain, it hasn’t been about being number one. The focus has been about finding a winning team for the future. I still believe that will take a bit of time. The players who have come in have done well, which is great, but there are still probably going to be some changes here and there.”

Petersen announced his retirement from Test cricket after the conclusion of the third and final Test against the West Indies in Cape Town, which South Africa won by eight wickets and took the series 2-0.
