A fire destroyed the African National Congress constituency office in Rosebank, north of Johannesburg, the party has said. “No one was injured but important office equipment and documents have been destroyed,” the office of the ANC chief whip said today in a statement. The fire broke out this afternoon at the Genseg office park, the party said. The constituency office belongs to Michael Masutha, deputy Science and Technology minister, and Gauteng MPL Errol Magerman. “We are gravely concerned by this incident, particularly as it occurs three weeks after a break-in at the same office in which computers and important documents were stolen,” the statement said. “A few months ago a fire broke out at the [ANC head office] Luthuli House reception.” The ANC hoped the police investigation would reveal what had caused the fire and those behind the break-ins. The party said police were conducting an investigation at the scene, and that firefighters had put out the fire. However, Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said he was not aware of the incident. Emergency services spokeswoman Nana Radebe could not confirm the incident either.
