Fishing company threatened me – Joemat-Pettersson

2013-12-02 10:24

Agriculture Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson has accused a fishing company of plotting to destroy her and physically threatening her children.

This comes as details of the Public Protector’s report into a controversial R800 million fisheries tender showed the minister had reportedly wasted taxpayers’ money, The Star reported today.

The minister was speaking in an interview posted on YouTube.

She blamed an unnamed fishing company of instituting a “beautifully orchestrated” smear campaign when she tried to blow the whistle on massive corruption and theft in her department.

The daily reported in the interview the minister spoke about how she found herself in a “very peculiar situation” when she tried to uncover corruption in her department.

She said the company made physical threats to her and her children.

“They first tried to bribe me and then they threatened me,” Joemat-Pettersson was quoted saying.
