Five men, aged between 30 and 39, were arrested in Hillbrow for hijacking a truck with wine worth about R9 million, police have said.

Police were following information that led them to the truck parked at a plot in Midrand yesterday, spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said today.

“It is alleged that the truck was travelling from Cape Town to Johannesburg when it was hijacked by the suspects in Bethlehem, Free State,” she said.

“They took it to an open veld in Midrand, where they were allegedly waited for a buyer of the cargo.”

Mogale said investigations continue.

The men are expected to appear soon in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on charges of hijacking and possession of stolen goods.
