Five face child support fraud charges

2011-02-10 12:56

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has lost at least R120 000 as a result of child grant fraud committed by five people recently arrested in North West, the agency said today.

The syndicate bought Road to Health clinic cards and allegedly illegally claimed for children it did not have, the department said in a statement.

Five of eight people implicated in the scam were to appear in court on February 22 after their arrest in Matlosana near Orkney.

They had already appeared once in the Matlosana District Court in January, said Sassa North West spokesman Smanga Selemeni.

The investigation continues.
