Five suspects in rugby fan death hand themselves in

2013-04-03 14:09

Five men have handed themselves over to police in connection with the death of a rugby fan in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police have said.

Four were taken into custody by police yesterday, while a fifth handed himself in to police on Wednesday, said Colonel Vincent Mdunge.

They are accused of beating Brett Williams (29) to death at a Super Rugby match in Durban last month.

Mdunge said the five would appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court tomorrow on a charge of murder.

They also face an additional charge of assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm.

Mdunge said this charge was related to the assault of a security guard who tried to intervene and stop the March 23 attack on Williams.
