Florida heist: three arrested

2011-03-03 14:12

Three people were arrested in connection with a cash-in-transit heist in Florida today, Gauteng police said.

The three allegedly robbed Coin security guards of empty money bags and a firearm, said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

Someone alerted police to the incident, describing the getaway car. It was spotted by members of the flying squad, who gave chase along the N1-N17 offramp. Shots were fired in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

A Florida police car managed to block the road, stopping the vehicle, which was found to contain two firearms –one of them stolen from the security guards – and the empty money bags.

The three occupants were arrested, one of whom was a former cash-in-transit guard.

A case of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm was being investigated, Dlamini said.
