Football fixtures postponed for Senzo’s funeral

2014-10-30 15:06

The Premier Soccer League executive committee has postponed all fixtures scheduled for this weekend.

The decision was taken at its monthly meeting in Joburg today.

“A decision was taken to postpone all Absa Premiership and National First Division fixtures scheduled for this weekend,” the PSL said.

“This was done following discussions between the league, title sponsors Absa, the broadcast partners and other relevant stakeholders regarding the extraordinary circumstances relating to the death and funeral of the Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa.”

Meyiwa, who was shot dead on Sunday evening in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, while visiting his singer girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, will be buried at his home town in Durban on Saturday morning. The funeral service will be held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
