International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane would focus on shaping SA’s foreign policy positions during her visit to Kenya today, her department said.

Nkoana-Mashabane arrived in Nairobi for the Africa Regional Heads of Mission conference this week, where she was expected to discuss South Africa’s approach to its foreign policy objective of consolidating the “African agenda“, according to a statement.

The minister wanted to reflect on economic and political integration of the African Union, and work on South Africa’s approach to the United Nations Security Council.

“In her address to the heads of mission in attendance, the minister said South Africa was fortunate in that her priorities correspond with those of the African continent.”

She spoke of the Southern African Development Community’s problems with regards to economic partnership agreements, and on difficulties involving Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The conference ends Saturday.
