The lawsuit of a former Vodacom employee against the company has been dismissed, with costs, in the South Gauteng High Court.

Nkosana Makate claimed to have invented the “please call me” service, which allows Vodacom subscribers to send a free text message asking another subscriber to call them.

Makate claims to have invented the concept in 2000 while he worked for Vodacom. He cited an internal email in which a senior executive credited him for the idea.

He said Vodacom reneged on a promise to discuss his share of the profit. Vodacom is believed to have made hundreds of millions of rands in profits.

The reasons for the dismissal were not immediately available, eNCA reported.
