Four nabbed after gruesome farm attack

2010-12-04 13:30

Four men who allegedly beat to death a woman and seriously injured her husband on their farm in the Koster district of North West have been arrested.

“Police managed to track down all four suspects on Friday (yesterday) at 7pm in Lethabong,” said Warrant Office Sam Tselanyane.

One of the suspects was previously an employee at the farm and he was residing in Mosenthal.

Christiaan Stephanus Erasmus and his wife Marthie Magdalena, both aged 63, were attacked and assaulted on their farm at about 6.30pm on Thursday.

They were just about to get inside their house when they were surprised by three unknown men while a forth man was suspected to have been at the gate.

The wife was allegedly dragged to the bedroom where her hands and feet were tied up and then beaten to death with a 16-pound hammer that was found at the scene.

Meanwhile, her husband was tied up on a chair in the kitchen and was also severely beaten, Tselanyane said.

Tselanyane said the men then allegedly ransacked the house and stole five firearms, one air rifle, clothing, jewellery, a microwave, Christmas gifts, cellular phones and about R15?000 cash.

When the men were arrested only R1?500 of the cash was allegedly found in their possession and some of the jewellery.

The rest of the possessions were found at a house in Bospoortdam where the father of one of the men works.

When the police arrived at the house they found the father already attempting to contact the police about the possessions he had found in the house.

The four men, aged between 16 and 24, will appear before the Koster Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of murder, attempted murder, house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.
