Four pedestrians killed by truck

2011-02-17 06:58

Four pedestrians, including two children, were killed after being hit by a truck while walking on the side of the N12 highway near Soweto, Johannesburg paramedics said today.

It was believed that the truck collided with a small car before it struck the four, said ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks.

Both the driver of the truck and that of the car were injured in the accident.

It is believed that a mechanical fault on the truck caused it to crash into the back of the small car.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found a man, a woman and two children, both under the age of 10, already dead.

The truck driver and the driver of the car were taken to a nearby hospital by ER24 for possible neck and back injuries, and minor lacerations.
