Gadgets to fire lust for life

2010-02-19 14:30

WHO doesn’t love new gadgets and toys to play with? In today’s

fast-paced world, it can be very hard to keep up with all the new changes and

developments in technology (never mind changes in the CBD!) especially if you

live in a city that never sleeps like Joburg.

The Sandtonista blog is written by five people who live in the city

and are each professionals in their respective fields. The blogger who knows all

about nifty gizmos, shopped around for the “it” gadgets currently keeping people

Here are some of the city-living must-haves:

The latest iPod Nano

The ever popular iPod Nano music player is now available in 8GB and

16GB versions and features a video camera and microphone. It comes in eight

stylish colours: black, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red and pink.

“One of my favourite features is that it has a built-in pedometer,

which helps me keep track of the number of steps I take and calories being

burned,” he says.

It provides up to 24 hours of music or five hours of video

The Intellipen

This nifty little gadget will soon become your best friend and make

your life much more efficient.

“Although this pen isn’t brand new on the market, I’m still

surprised to hear many people don’t actually know about it or its amazing

technology,” says the Sandtonista.

Here is how it works: you clip the capture device onto the top of

your page, turn it on and write down your notes and drawings. As you clip and

unclip to change pages, the device automatically starts a new page.

Once you get to the office, you simply plug it into your USB port

and up-load the content onto your computer and voila! Your handwritten

information is transferred to text thanks to the handwriting recognition

It can store hundreds of handwritten text and drawings as well as

image, music and video. Pretty cool huh?

Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700

Named after the brightest star in the constellation Virgo, the

Galaxy Spica is the second smartphone to come with an Android operating system

from Samsung.

The Spica runs Android edition 1.5 and comes with 800MHz processor.

It has a 320x480 capacitive touch screen that supports 16 million colours. One

of the major benefits of using an Android operation system is the host of Google

applications that come with it such as Google search, Maps and Google Talk.

“Being someone that spends hours on my phone, I absolutely love

that the battery life on the Samsung Galaxy Spica seems to have the longest talk

time, which is said to be about 11 hours.”

Great for any age, but just a warning … it’s addictive!

Because it’s the perfect size to carry around with you, you won’t

want to ever leave it at home. The PSP Go is the smallest and mightiest PSP yet.

It downloads rich, addictive digital gaming and movie content on the PlayStation

Network. It also allows you to download the best digital games and movies

directly to the 16GB built-in memory and use the built-in Bluetooth support to

connect a wireless headset for you to Skype your friends.

My favourite feature is the 3.8-inch LCD screen with the PSP Go’s

new slide-out control design.

This is something that really allows you to go digital wherever you

may be.
