Gang arrested after robbery

Seven men have been arrested in connection with a business robbery in Hillbrow, Joburg, Ekurhuleni metro police said today.

Police caught the men last night at a house they had been watching, spokesman Wilfred Kgasago said. “They confiscated seven cellphones and four firearms from them. The serial numbers of the guns were filed off,” he said.

Kgasago said the men were believed to be part of a group that robbed a fast-food outlet in Germiston on the East Rand on Friday.

Nine men entered the outlet around 4pm and robbed the cashiers of R5 500 at gun-point. Several customers were also robbed of cash, cellphones and other valuables.

The men, aged between 25 and 35, were expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court tomorrow.
