The Gary Player Invitational, with the help of Coca-Cola, raised R12.2 million for Chinese Aids orphans at the event held recently in China.

The Grand Slam winner was left speechless by the generosity of the invited professional golfers, celebrities and businessmen who made this one of the most successful tournaments in the history of this global charity series, which also travels to Europe, America and South Africa to raise funds for underprivileged children.

“Raising money for charity is difficult in the current economic times, but this is an unbelievable milestone for us,” said Player, who himself contributed R773 000 to the Gala Dinner Auction as the winning bid for a trip for two from Hong Kong to Europe.

Since its inception in 2007, the Gary Player Invitational China has raised R22 million for Aids orphans in Yunnan, Hubel Anhui and Xinjiang, China.

The South African event takes place at The Links at Fancourt from November 18 to 21.
