Gauteng new hymm book

2014-04-08 10:00

Gauteng means “place of gold”.

It is no exaggeration to state that the economic history of South Africa is the history of Gauteng.

The formation of the so-called Union of South Africa was lubricated in no small measure by the then recent “discovery” of gold in Gauteng.

As painfully sung by Miriam Makeba, the Gauteng mining compounds is where the bones from the dead bodies of our brethren still lie strewn.

Modern-day Gauteng, which boasts bright lights above the empty bowels of the earth, was built, literally, on top of those dead bodies.

If the citizens of Gauteng will be kind enough to give me the opportunity to be the premier of Gauteng under the banner of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), as I believe they will, we’ll adopt a blueprint for a winning Gauteng, nicknamed Formula 777.

We will refer to the seven cardinal pillars of the EFF.

These are the non-negotiable demands that define the generational mission of those South Africans who declare, fearlessly, their resolve to attain economic freedom in our lifetime.

Then we will tell our people about the underlying values that will provide a moral base for our policies.

Residents of Gauteng will be able to judge us against seven deliverables from now until 2019.

These include our commitment to be preoccupied from day one with the plight of the underdog, the most vulnerable and the weakest among us, in all spheres of social and economic life.

This is our raison d’être.

We will also commit to deal massive blows to inequality, poverty, unemployment as well as the forgotten problem of underemployment.

This entails an assault on the ideological “consensus” of all the other major parties, who all extol the “virtues” of the neoliberal National Development Plan.

We will further champion a rural and agrarian reform and revolution, and the reversal of the effects of our historical dispossession over almost 362 years and the dismal failure of the current corrupt regime to intervene decisively on the crucial land question.

Next we will end the culture of greed, selfishness and individualism among both leaders and members of society.

Servant leadership must be the order of the day. Linked to this will be the elimination of corruption.

An EFF government will empower citizens, by which we mean education to explain the fact that citizens are entitled not only to protest against nondelivery but to boot out thieves and other criminals and keep them far away from the cookie jar.

The citizen is the boss.

We will do everything in our power to build a common future for all South Africans.

National unity and social cohesion cannot be built on the back of chauvinism and xenophobia.

Nor can nonracialism and national reconciliation be pursued at the expense of economic redress and economic justice.

The business of an EFF government in Gauteng will be squarely based on these yardsticks and we will expect the voters to judge us against them.

If we fail, they must remove us. Similarly, the current regime has already failed and they must be peacefully removed through the power of the “X”.
