Gauteng toll petition tabled

2011-09-21 12:48

A hearing to resolve an impasse over the proposed tolling system in Gauteng will be convened within 30 days, the provincial legislature said today.

This was as a result of petitions expressing “dissatisfactions” from labour federation Cosatu, the SA National Taxi Council (Santaco) and the DA, the legislature said in a statement.

The petitions were submitted to the standing committee on petitions by organisations representing workers, communities and political party members.

“The committee has decided to handle the petition as one petition and will be subjecting it to the petitions process of the Gauteng Legislature from now onwards,” according to the legislature statement.

“The committee will within a space of 30 days convene (a) hearing in a quest to resolve the impasse on the toll gates.”

Within that period, responses would be sought from the provincial government’s transport development department.
