Gauteng police commissioner Mzwandile Petros has resigned.

EWN reported today that Petros would leave his position when his contract ends on August 15. He reportedly made the announcement during a police function at Mogale City last night.

In June, City Press reported that Petros roped in a sangoma to investigate after a break-in at his office in Parktown, Johannesburg.

Captain Nomathemba Mgwebile, the sangoma who works as an executive secretary in Petros’ office, was brought in to “sniff out” those responsible for the burglary.

Petros’ office was broken into on the eve of Major-General Tirhani Maswanganyi’s murder, but nothing was stolen from it.

Petros moved from the Western Cape to become Gauteng police commissioner in 2010.
