Gibbs gives away career memorabilia on Twitter

2011-01-26 11:58

Former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs says he will give away his man-of-the-match medal from one of cricket’s most famous games to a Twitter follower.

Gibbs won the award for scoring 175 in South Africa’s then-record total of 438 to beat Australia in a series-deciding one-day international in 2006.

It’s still the highest score by a team batting second in a one-day international (ODI).

Gibbs says it’s his last piece of memorabilia left after giving away shirts, pads and caps to some of his 19?000 Twitter fans who correctly answered quiz questions about him.

Gibbs played 90 tests and 248 ODIs for South Africa.
