Give the gift of road safety

2010-12-04 13:27

It started with schools’ constant reminders to parents about their children’s year-end performances.

Then came the letters that Father Christmas was coming to preschools to hand over presents.

But now it is clear that the festive season has officially begun – the music blaring out of cars, the braais, the weddings, the parties, the stokvels. Everyone is happy, but safety seems to be the last thing on people’s minds.

Some people are first-time owners of cars – thanks to their bonuses – while others are seasoned drivers.
Many journeys will be undertaken in the coming weeks. The transport department will soon launch its road safety campaign in anticipation of the huge traffic volumes.

South Africa’s roads have proved to be dangerous during this time of the year, so the message to all road users should be to get to your destinations safe and sound.

Let’s hold on to our beers until we reach our destinations. Let’s take regular breaks. Let’s think about the other drivers. Let’s practise patience.

Let us all arrive alive in January to our jobs throughout the country. Our safety on the roads is in our hands.
