Guptagate: four more suspended

2013-05-03 11:27

Four more high ranking officials have been put on “compulsory special leave” relating to the Gupta wedding jet saga, Justice Minister Jeff Radebe has said.

The four were from the SA National Defence Force and the SA Police Service (SAPS), he said.

They are: SA Air Force (SAAF) command post Brigadier General L Lombard; Air Force Base Brigadier General TS Madumane; Movement Control Officer Lieutenant Colonel Anderson; and Gauteng deputy provincial police commissioner Major General Phumzo Gela.

The move follows the suspension of Chief of State Protocol Bruce Koloane yesterday, during a probe into how a Gupta family chartered jet was allowed to land at Air Force Base Waterkloof.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed the need to probe the circumstances under which the clearances for the aircraft to land were secured,” departmental spokesperson Clayson Monyela said at the time.

Koloane’s deputy would assume responsibility in the interim.
