HOD in court for drink-driving, pretending to be a cop

Mpumalanga’s head of community safety has appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on charges of drink-driving and impersonating a police officer.

Thulani Sibuyi was granted R1 000 bail after appearing in court, said Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale.

In August, City Press reported that Sibuyi had been arrested in connection with the awarding of security contracts worth R1.2 billion for government offices.

Mogale said: “He allegedly crashed into another vehicle, and when the police came he allegedly put on his siren and told them he was a police officer.”

DA spokesperson Anthony Benadie has called on Mpumalanga MEC Vusi Shongwe to act against Sibuyi.

“As the head of the provincial task team implemented to fight drunk driving in the province, the DA believes Sibuyi must lead by example,” said Benadie.

The Mpumalanga department of community safety could not be reached for comment yesterday.
