Valentine’s Day is a thing for the “ladies”, and only they could receive wishes, President Jacob Zuma has said.

The president started his Valentine’s Day this morning at 6.30am in the five-star Westin Hotel on Cape Town’s Foreshore with a televised business breakfast organised by The New Age.

When he was called to stage he started by saying happy Valentine’s Day – to the ladies. He admitted: “I am being selective, I can’t say so to the guys. Hard luck to the guys,” he said while giggling.

“To all the ladies, wherever you are, it is your day,” he said.

Zuma then jokingly asked the host, Peter Ndoro, if he knew whether there were similar days for guys.

Many of the audience members were dressed in red and white to celebrate the day in honour of romantic love.

Zuma last night delivered his sixth state of the nation address, flanked by his first wife and flame of many years, MaKhumalo.

The other three wives sat in the president’s bay in the public gallery next to ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa and his wife.
