‘I decided to withdraw?.?.?.?it was too hard for me’

Glamorous SABC2 weather presenter Tshidi Diphoko has broken up with her lover who is the head of the Hawks in Gauteng after accusing him of cheating on her with two other women.

She accused Major General Shadrack Sibiya of cheating on her with senior police officer and a top civil servant.

Diphoko moved out of the Pretoria home the couple shared earlier this year and moved back in with her parents in Sebokeng, south of Joburg.

A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Diphoko plunged into severe depression after discovering that Sibiya, whom she claimed had promised to marry her, was two-timing her with a senior officer.

Sibiya, who shot to prominence after arresting former crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli for the alleged murder of his love rival Oupa Ramogibe, met Diphoko in 2010 and the two moved in together a year later.

Their relationship became a hot topic at the SABC after Sibiya was regularly seen at the broadcaster’s Auckland Park offices dropping off and fetching Diphoko in his Porsche.

But things began falling apart last year when Diphoko found that Sibiya had secretly flown to Germany for a holiday with the senior officer.

But he had told Diphoko that he was travelling to Durban for work.

The family member said: “When she (Diphoko) confronted him about it, he told her that it was a business trip and that there was nothing going on between them.

Tshidi was so hurt but because she loved him, she decided to stay.”

Their relationship took another knock when Sibiya arrived home in the early hours of a Saturday morning sometime last year.

When she asked where he had been, Sibiya said he had slept at the senior cop’s house because she had refused to allow him to leave and had smashed his phone.

The last straw was when Diphoko discovered that Sibiya had yet another woman, a civil servant, on his romantic radar.

“One day this woman phoned Tshidi and insulted her. She told Tshidi that Sibiya was her man and that she should stay away from him,” the family member claimed.

Sibiya denied any affair with the said woman, but asked Diphoko to move out until he paid lobolo for her. He then stopped taking her calls or responding to her SMSes.

Diphoko confirmed that her love affair with Sibiya was over, but said she harbours no bitterness. “I decided to withdraw from this relationship as it was too hard for me to handle.

“I went through so much that I couldn’t take it any more. I wish him all the best of luck in the world.”

When called for comment, the senior police official said she and Sibiya were not an item.

“I want nothing to do with that man. I don’t want to be associated with anything that has to do with him,” she said.

Sibiya confirmed on Thursday that he had broken up with Diphoko, adding: “We are not fighting. We are friends. I prefer to talk to you in the presence of your editor.” But he never arrived as promised.
