Hearing set for Dewani

2011-03-24 07:00

A British man accused of organising the murder of his wife during their South African honeymoon will appear in court in two months to face extradition proceedings.

District Judge Howard Riddle said on Wednesday that 31-year-old Shrien Dewani would appear for a two-day hearing starting May 3.

Experts in forensic psychiatry and prisons are due to give evidence for the defence via videolink from Cape Town.

South African authorities want to try Dewani for allegedly ordering a hit on his 28-year-old bride in the South African city last November after Anni Dewani was found shot through the neck in an abandoned taxi in the deprived Gugulethu township.

The taxi driver later alleged that Shrien Dewani had paid him to kill his wife. He denies the charge.
