Herschelle Gibbs ‘in drink driving accident’

2014-12-01 19:19

Former Proteas’ cricket player Herschelle Gibbs has reportedly been arrested for drink driving.

Western Cape police could not confirm today that the man arrested was Gibbs, but said a 40-year-old man was arrested last night.

“The circumstances surrounding an accident which occurred yesterday at about 11.30pm are being investigated,” said police spokesperson Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana.

“A drink driving case is under investigation. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested and later released, to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on 25 November 2015 on the charge registered against him.”

In 2009, Gibbs was treated at a rehabilitation clinic for drug and alcohol abuse.

He had been arrested in March 2008, apparently after an incident in Main Road, Sea Point, in Cape Town, and had faced a charge of drink driving, alternatively reckless or negligent driving. The charges were withdrawn.
