Honour our icons while they’re alive

2014-11-23 15:00

Nelson Mandela, the father of South Africa’s freedom, had to overcome so many barriers; so many prejudices and misconceptions, lies and struggles, before he liberated his country.

But why is it that we often wait for people to die before we acknowledge their greatness?

Why can’t we help people who do great things by addressing their concerns when they are alive?

December 5 last year was one of the saddest days for South Africa and the world.

Loved and respected across the world, Mandela, the Nobel peace prize laureate and the first black president of South Africa, dedicated his life to serving humanity.

We thanked him for the sacrifices he had made to give us freedom. He was a real freedom fighter.

Even though death is inevitable, Mandela’s demise was a great loss to the world.

He was loved and respected globally, thanks to his idealism and commitment to peace.

May his soul rest in peace.
