2010-09-24 11:38

A man and his son were killed during a hostage drama in Kempton Park on the East Rand.

The man (60), who had held his son (35) hostage since early today, was killed after firing at members of a police task force who had entered the house in Birchleigh, police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza said.

His son was already dead when police entered the house. It is believed he shot him several times.

Netcare 911 paramedics spokesperson, Chris Botha said: “The man’s wife (67) escaped out of the house and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.”

Kweza said the woman was in a stable condition. She was not at liberty to disclose at which hospital she was being treated. The woman had sustained a gunshot wound to the neck.

None of the officers on the scene were injured.
