Hunks fail to dazzle

Let’s hope ‘ultimate man’ TV show is more interesting than its launch

Reality TV has never really been my thing but watching 25 lookers compete for the title of “ultimate man” is definitely something I can get used to.

Bar One’s hunt for the manliest of men is back on our screens each Thursday at 8pm on SABC 3.

And while the first episode aired, we were at Hyde Park Corner getting a much closer look at the makings of the show – and the hunks of course!

But what followed was a bit of an anti-climax really. The selection of various cheeses and berries was lovely but cheese and wine don’t really say ultimate man.

The 25 contestants, media and the few celebrities who pitched milled around the mall’s centre court waiting for the event to start.

Pearl Thusi, dressed in a tight-fitting white mini dress and going about her Real Goboza presenting business, offered more entertainment than the hunks, who didn’t do the best job of proving one can have both brains and a hot bod.

Being the brand ambassador for Rubicon is certainly working out for former Miss SA, Bokang Montjane, who arrived (a tad late) in a lovely blue number.

Generation actress Nambitha Mpumlwana spent most of her time with co-host Anga Makubalo, leaving us wondering if there might be any off-screen action between “mother” and “son”.

The night provided plenty of eye candy with the 25 vying for the top spot and the show’s host Ursula Chikane.

Now let’s hope the TV show is more action-packed than its launch.
