Hunt on for ‘BoringMilner’ Twitter parody author

2014-06-03 15:58

Miami – As Twitter parody accounts go in football, few are as unflattering as the one in James Milner’s name.

Using the “BoringMilner” handle, a picture of a mundane existence by the Manchester City and England player is portrayed. The midfielder has tried to hunt down the culprit, but failed.

“I’ve never got close enough – I thought I had, but I realised they didn’t have enough banter,” he said on Monday.

“We went through this [at the club] wondering who it was. There were a few tweets about Asda [supermarket] so I was asking the masseurs where they shopped ... I don’t think it’s at the club, no. Who knows? It’s good fun.”

Milner’s only presence on Twitter is an account for his foundation which has just 15 000 followers compared with the parody account’s 243 000. The latest mundane update on the account read: “When I stepped off the plane in Miami I thought it was really warm and I was right because when I checked the temperature it was 27 [degrees Celsius].”

Milner is part of England’s 23-man squad that’s in Miami preparing for the World Cup.

“I’m coming off a season winning a [Premier League] title at City,” Milner (28) said. “The unfortunate thing is we’ve had a week to enjoy it and now we’re into a World Cup.”

Whenever Milner returns from Brazil, he could have his club career to resolve after struggling to secure a regular place in Manuel Pellegrini’s team.

“Football moves quickly and at this moment in time the only thing is the World Cup,” he said.
