There has been a delay in the handing over of the so-called Zuma spy tapes, Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille has said.

“I would like to say that I have the tapes, but unfortunately I don’t,” she told reporters outside the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria today.

“The deputy judge president first wants to study the [Supreme Court of Appeal] court order.”

Zille said she was told to return at 2.30pm.

In 2009, the National Prosecuting Authority said the recordings of conversations between its former head Bulelani Ngcuka and then Scorpions boss Leonard McCarthy were proof of a political conspiracy against President Jacob Zuma and thus it couldn’t continue with its case against him.

The DA wants to see if the tapes support that claim.
